Call for Protest against the NATO-Securityconference
Let’s stop the arms race madness!
Call of the "Aktionsbündnis gegen die NATO-Sicherheitskonferenz 2026"
Manifestation and Protestline the 14th February 2026 at Munich
Fear of war is being stoked with a new threat every day: drone sightings, reports of sabotage, alarmism – all based on false claims rather than facts. A new cold war is being conjured up to distract us from social cuts and the militarization of society. We’re told to tighten our belts, swallow conscription, and be ready.
The claim that Russia wants to attack NATO is being used to justify an arms race. The last government wrote unlimited special debts into basic law. The aim is to make the country “fit for war.”
Wars of aggression, that is, with the danger of world war, as such measures would not be necessary for defense.
The Military Balance 2025 study (1 confirms NATO’s two to threefold superiority over Russia in the conventional arms sphere. Even the US intelligence services say that there is no evidence that Russia wants to attack NATO. The opposite claim is pure propaganda
NATO as an imperialist instrument
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the US has pursued its goal of remaining the world’s sole superpower. Against this backdrop, NATO expanded eastward, regime changes took place, international arms control treaties were terminated, and wars of aggression contrary to international law were waged against Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya, thereby dismantling international law. Since then, NATO has been pursuing an even more unrestrained course of war.
NATO is the world’s most powerful military alliance; there is nothing else like it. Although its member states account for less than 10% of the world’s population, they are responsible for more than half of global military spending. At the same time, NATO countries control 70% of global arms production, have hundreds of military bases, and dominate the world’s oceans and even outer space.
The West’s global hegemony
The balance of power is shifting worldwide. With the emergence of new economic competitors (BRICS countries and 40 other interested parties), the political West sees its global dominance threatened. By 2050, the EU and the US will account for only 5% of the world’s population, and China will be the largest economic power. The West fears retribution for historical guilt.
Therefore, NATO’s long-term goal is to maintain a world order that continues to disadvantage the countries of the Global South, limiting their development opportunities and weakening them so that the exploitation of the Global South continues to function. To this end, any means are justified, including military force as seen in countless wars on all continents, for example in Congo, Sudan, Kurdistan, Yemen, Ukraine, and Palestine, as well as the threat to Venezuela. Instead, the Global South calls for the resolution of conflicts and wars on the basis of the UN Charter.
Germany’s claim to leadership
With the Merz government, Germany is aggressively pursuing its claim to supremacy in Europe. Germany is providing significant financial support for the war in Ukraine. It is entering into arms cooperation agreements and supplying heavy weapons that enable attacks deep into Russia. As part of a cooperation agreement with France and the United Kingdom, Germany is seeking access to nuclear weapons.
Migration and flight
Flight and migration are consequences of the capitalist economic model and imperialist power politics. Western states are unwilling to live up to their historical responsibility. Instead, they are closing their borders and erecting deadly walls. People are dying en masse on refugee routes. The guidelines laid out in the Geneva 1951 Refugee Convention are increasingly being replaced by racist regulations that anticipate the demands of right-wing populists.
Genocide and expulsion
The genocide in Gaza and the expulsion of Palestinians in the West Bank violate international law and the Genocide Convention. Trump’s dictated peace heralds a new phase of colonisation in Gaza, legitimising Israel’s systematic expropriation, control, and subjugation of the Palestinian people. In pursuit of supposed “national interest,” and its military, financial and political support for Israel, Germany is once again placing itself on the wrong side of history. And let’s also not forget that Germany has been supporting Turkey for decades in its cultural and military oppression of the Kurdish resistance.
NO to attack from Germany
s part of the global anti-war and peace movement, we oppose the deployment of US medium-range missiles, which include offensive weapons with first-strike capabilities for a decapitation strike. Biden and Scholz had already agreed to this for 2026, without public debate or parliamentary consultation. So much for their accusations towards other states of autocracy. If you have the US as a friend, you don’t need enemies anymore.
Rightward shift and social polarisation
Right-wing populists and fascist movements are on the rise worldwide. In some cases, the parties of the “democratic centre” are anticipating their plans and shifting the social discourse further and further to the right. At the same time, they are intensifying repression against critics and opposition figures. The social climate is being aligned with a war mentality, and we are witnessing a renaissance of the cult of masculinity, misogyny, sexism and a decline in solidarity.
Arms buildups and internal mobilisation
Almost all NATO countries are planning to increase military spending, even though they already exceed Russia’s conventional military strength. At the same time, the German government wants to massively cut investment in public services, health, education, culture, and climate and environmental protection. This would primarily affect the poor, the sick, pensioners, children and young people, further destroy natural resources, and increasingly jeopardise peace.
The established parties have now identified the AfD as their main opponent and want to “take on” the issues peddled by this right-wing populist party riddled with fascists. Instead of “remigration,” as envisaged by the right-wing radicals, they are practising deportation and “repatriation” for the sake of “city-image maintenance.” But this affects not only refugees and migrants, but the entire population. The German government and the AfD agree with Trump that military spending should be increased to 5% of GDP. To this end, the eight-hour working day is under attack and state welfare benefits could be slashed by 90% with the possibility of completely abolishing basic social security.
Reintroduction of compulsory military service
nstead of peaceful life planning, self-determination, and the opportunity for personal development, young people are now faced with the prospect of compulsory military service. But resistance is becoming visible: more and more young people are opposing the planned recruitment for military service.
Resistance is forming internationally. The blockades and strikes against arms shipments to war zones – especially by port and transport workers in Italy, Greece, Spain, and Sweden which culminated in a general strike on 3 October in Italy with up to 2 million participants – send a clear signal. Millions took to the streets worldwide to protest against their governments’ preparations for war, social cuts, and violations of international law.
What we are protesting against
Government representatives will be meeting once again with arms dealers, corporate executives, and military leaders at the so-called Security Conference to publicly promote the war course and arrange arms deals. They are not concerned with the safety of humanity, but with maintaining the West’s global hegemony through NATO, the EU’s aspirations to become a superpower, and Germany’s claim to leadership. An end must be put to it once and for all!
Please note our consensus within the alliance.
The Action Alliance against the NATO Security Conference works on an anti-fascist basis and strongly opposes nationalist, militaristic, ethnocentric, racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, or right-wing populist-Islamophobic content. Groups that regularly and systematically collaborate with organizations promoting the aforementioned content cannot be members of the alliance. The struggle for peace and against war and armament is inherently international. Therefore, we strongly reject tendencies and expressions in line with the ideological directions mentioned here, and we exclude individuals and organizations that propagate the aforementioned content in speech, wriing, and/or imagery from our assembly. Additionally, we request that national flags not be brought to our gatherings.
Our protests are supported by people of various ethnic backgrounds, skin colors, philosophical, political, cultural, and sexual orientations. None of them should face discrimination.
